MoMA PS1 is pleased to present Visionary Transformation, the first solo museum exhibition in the U.S. by Chinese contemporary artist Zheng Guogu. The viewing highlights a selection of twelve paintings from Zheng’s Great Visionary Transformation series made over the last eight years. The works digitally superimpose multiple traditional Buddhist thangkas — hanging scroll paintings that serve as meditation tools — into a single hallucinatory image meant to evoke the Buddhist belief in the impermanence of the physical realm.
