The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has announced the sixth edition of its leading global forum, Culture Summit Abu Dhabi, which will return to Manarat Al Saadiyat in the UAE capital from the 29th to the 31st of October 2023.

Held under the theme ‘A Matter of Time’, this edition will gather a collection of thought leaders from the various fields of culture such as art, heritage, media, music, museums, public policy, and technology from over 90 countries to explore our changing relation to time and how culture can change the world’s interpretation of time.

This year’s program features a multi-track agenda consisting of a series of keynotes, plenary sessions, panel discussions, artist talks, case study workshops, creative conversations, policy sessions, cultural performances, and a visual art exhibition.

Creative experts, artists, change makers, policymakers, and cultural leaders will explore the impact of change on culture production, and consumption, and its role in navigating our evolving relationship with time. Summit sessions organized in collaboration with global partner organizations such as UNESCO, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Foundation, Economist Impact, the Design Museum, Google, and the Recording Academy will transition from the mechanical time of the modern era to a new cultural time in sync with human awareness and nature’s rhythm.

As His Excellency Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi said, “Culture Summit Abu Dhabi continues to be a cornerstone of a diverse cultural program which is curated to inspire creativity and knowledge development; helping to diversify and build a knowledge-based economy.”

Each of the three days of the Summit program will follow a specific sub-theme to unpack how our relation to time is evolving, examine the challenges this evolution represents for the culture and creative sectors, and provide focused, functional solutions. Day 1, “Reimagining Time,” explores the influence of culture on our collective memory and the changing nature of time in a world where attention spans fluctuate, yet everything is recorded. Day 2, “Navigating Complexity,” scrutinizes the impact of ‘fast culture’ on critical thinking and how culture can help us slow down to confront complexity. Day 3, “Embracing Deep Time,” addresses long-term challenges like the climate crisis, spotlighting culture’s role in bridging generational gaps and fostering unity amidst an uncertain future.

The event is by invitation only. Those looking to attend Culture Summit Abu Dhabi 2023 can register their interest to attend here.
