What: Chinese-American poet and literary artist, Jane Wong’s first solo museum exhibition entitled “After Preparing the Altar, The Ghosts Feast Feverishly”
When: June through September 2019
Where: Frye Art Museum located in Seattle’s First Hill neighborhood
Why (It’s Worth A Visit): Drawing inspiration from her upbringing in a Chinese restaurant in New Jersey as well as her family’s experience of poverty in rural China, Wong’s work focuses on gluttony and hunger across multiple generations. The must-see installation is comprised of altars, sculptural poems, and personal effects that provoke deeper understandings of food waste and the realities of low-income immigrant families.
