Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, a green oasis in the heart of the city, has become one of Australia’s most digitally-connected spaces with the installation of 40 ‘smart-nodes’ which will provide free, high-speed Wi-Fi for visitors.

Mobile-savvy Chinese visitors are known to be keen on speedy, reliable internet and these travellers can now engage with the garden through a brand-new app available in Mandarin and downloadable through the App Store and Google Play.

In addition to an interactive map and news alerts, the Garden app offers self-guided walking tours with audio and augmented reality (AR) features. Chinese tourists can also read about the history of the green space and discover restaurants, cafes, amenities, and other attractions in the area.

The 30 hectare green space, located in central Sydney, recently introduced Behind the Scenes Sensory Tour, a 1.5 hour guided walking tour offering sightseers exclusive access to some parts of the garden. Tours will run twice a week and small Chinese-language groups can book in advance through TripAdvisor as well as the Garden’s website.

In recent years, Australian cultural institutions have become increasingly focused on catering to the large number of Chinese tourists travelling to the country.
